A Prayer for the Clinically Depressed

 

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. I come to Your throne of grace to which You have invited us to come boldly to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. I come on behalf of every clinically depressed person who is reading this page at this time and for every clinically depressed person who may never even know of the existence of this website. Near, far and wide, we all need You, even when we are not aware of it or when we deliberately ignore You.

 

Lord, Your understanding is unsearchable; it cannot be measured. Only You know the depth of suffering of a clinically depressed soul. I thank You that You are not far from every one of us, as You have revealed to us in Your word, and that You invite us to come to You when we are heavy laden, so You may give us rest. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will draw us unto You and guide our hearts into seeking You for refuge from the darkness of clinical depression in which we get blinded and sometimes lose our way. 

 

Lord, Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Help us to become aware of the truth that there are ways out of clinical depression if we give ourselves a chance to find a way out, and that it is possible for us to live and enjoy a full life once more. Though the temptation to take our lives is real and sometimes overwhelmingly strong, I pray that You will deliver us from evil and help us not to be tempted above what we are able to bear, but open our eyes so we may see and perceive the way of escape which You have promised to make for us. 

 

Lord, we are all lost without You and I pray that You will find us wherever we are in our lostness -- the time we need You most. Thank You that You came to seek and to save the lost. Seek us out in our times of depressing darkness and spiritual lostness, I pray. Help us to feel the need for You and to seek You too because You say we shall seek You and find You when we search for You with all our hearts.

 

Help us to know the full and complete joy of finding and knowing You and help us to remain in Your love so we may spend eternity with You. 

 

You are our Saviour; save us, O Lord, I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
